Zion Covenant, Books 1-3-3 Vol. Boxed Set: Vienna Prelude, Prague Counterpoint, Munich Signature
Published in Paperback by Bethany House Publishers (June, 1991)
Average review score:

Zion Covenant and Zion Chronicles seriesI started with Zion covenant and found them to be rich with human drama. I read a lot and Bodie Thoene has just been promoted as my favorite author. Brock and Bodie have worked together to create a marvelous reading experience. I will eventually read everything they have written.
You just want to keep on reading! This past summer I started reading Thoene's "The Shiloh legacy" and I really liked them, When I'd finished them I heard about "The Zion Covenant series" so I decided to read them too. I wasn't disappointed, they are just as good! Now I'm about to start reading "Munich Signature" There is one problem though, summer is over and I have to work, but I want to read!!! /Elisabeth

Alma Mahler or the Art of Being Loved
Published in Hardcover by Oxford University Press (April, 1992)
Average review score:

A TYPICAL LOVE AFFAIR IN BELLE EPOQUE ERALike CAROLINE OTERO,MISIA SERT and a few others,ALMA MAHLER came to symbolize the emerging power of women in the arts,at least in terms of the influence they had over their famous husbands. What FRANCOISE GIROUD tried to establish with that book,is that GUSTAV MAHLER gradually destroyed his wife's personnality. We've come a long way since then, but back then,it was almost impossible for a woman to made a name for herself ,even if she had a strong personnality. It was simply put a man's world, and FRANCOISE GIROUD in a true feminist way has found herself a good subject with the love affair between the composer and ALMA.I enjoyed reading this a lot. It's actually not a so called biography, more an essay about love and the way it can alter your life.

Animal Embroideries & Patterns: From XIX Century Vienna, from the Nowotny Collection
Published in Hardcover by Antique Collectors Club (November, 2002)

Raffaella Serena has out-done herself with this book! This is a wonderful book! Like her other books, it is filled with page after page of colorful Berlin work charts, in different
categories such as Cats, Dogs, Horses, Exotic Animals, Birds, etc. My favorite is the category of Children with Animals.
The best thing is the section of black and white charts at the
back of the book, I counted 40 of them! They are clear and easy
to use, and coded for DMC floss, and DMC wool. I have all of
Raffaella's books, and this may very well be her best. I can
only hope that she will continue to produce more books like these!

Appointment in Vienna: An American Psychoanalyst Recalls Her Student Days in Pre-War Austria
Published in Hardcover by St. Martin's Press (February, 1989)
Average review score:

A review of "Appointment in Vienna"This book provides a valuable historical and theoretical perspective on the development of psychoanalysis. It is seen from the eyes of an American lay analyst who received analytic training in Vienna in the early 1930's and subsequently returned to New York. With a well-balanced and sensible perspective, the author takes to task some of the big names of the early years of psychoanalysis and the cult-like, dogmatic nature that manifested itself in the movement. Her narrative depicts first-hand experience of the aloofness of the therapist which was characteristic of "classic psychoanalysis." The author advocates the need for a relationship of openness and rapport between analyst and client which is essential for providing a positive environment in which the client can thrive.

Berlitz Vienna

The imperial capitol in your pocket!Berlitz's Vienna pcket guide is a wonderfull gem for our upcoming tour of the imperial capitol. This book, i.e., Berlitz Vienna includes items such as: hotels, museums and resturants. One thing that is sort of obsolete is their usefull expressions since most people having a working knowledge in English.

Blue Guide Vienna (Blue Guide)
Published in Paperback by W.W. Norton & Company (May, 1997)
Average review score:

Kind of like a real guide in your pocketWe used the Blue Guide for our trip to Vienna. It was fantastic, if you like detailed information about architecture and history, which we do. The book doesn't have much, if any humor, as it is almost like a textbook. I wouldn't use it for accomodation information, but as a human guide it cannot be beat.

The Dry Danube: A Hitler Forgery
Published in Hardcover by New Directions Publishing (April, 2000)
Average review score:

West SparklesPaul West has always stretched (ripped, shredded) conventional narrative techniques, opting instead for something more expansive, expressive, and imaginative. West sparkles bright as ever in his latest work, showing that he remains one of our greatest literary treasures. Let us hope he continues raising the proverbial bar, so we can continue, with terrific joy, to submerse our minds in his texts. Read this man.
